SAVE THE DATE & REGISTER FOR THE 'TOO MUCH': A SEASON OF MELODRAMA SPRINT EVENT
FAN is proud to unveil the new UK-wide season – Too Much: A Season of Melodrama - where audiences are invited to follow their emotions this autumn.
Date: 15 April
Time: 10:30 AM - 3 PM
Location: Watershed, 1 Canon's Rd, Bristol BS1 5TX
The presentations will start at 11 am with teas/coffees beforehand and will end by 3 pm. A vegan lunch will be provided.
'Too Much' celebrates the visual excess and dramatic potency of a form of cinema which champions decadence over ‘good taste’. Tracing the form from the “woman’s pictures” of classic Hollywood to the heightened plotlines of the Mexican Golden Age and the restrained tragedy of Mizoguchi or Naruse, the season will encourage audiences to forgo restraint and feel something.
The season will celebrate costuming, production design and the female stars who drew audiences to the cinema, reframing perceptions of female characters and storylines in the classic era. In addition to titles from the Golden Age, the wider FAN offering will explore the influence of the melodramatic mode all the way from the silent era to today.
A Creative Brief and Guidelines will be shared in the next few weeks with more information. For now, FAN members are invited to Watershed, Bristol on Tuesday 15th April to join the team and experts involved to explore how you might develop your own activity as part of this UK-wide programme.
This is also a chance to connect with other film exhibitors who are also interested in developing such projects. The day is an opportunity for FAN members to come together to explore the themes and opportunities as part of Too Much. You might just want to find out more about menu titles available; or would like to develop a bespoke programme in your location; or have an idea for a cross-FAN project involving several exhibitors around the UK. Get involved!
Please register your attendance and feel free to pass the registration form to anyone else who you think might be interested.
