Starting in September The Northern Light Cinema in Wirksworth will launch their brand new world cinema loyalty club, Explorer. The project was devised by Cinema Programme Manager Josh Senior, in an effort to increase attendance for subtitled films from around the globe. The premise is simple, see three films in the series and get your fourth film for free, a bit like a coffee card, but for films (so even better).

The films in the programme will take the viewer on a cinematic trip around the world, from Spain to China, the USA to France and beyond. The season kicks off in September with Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film Pain & Glory, a semi-autobiographical ode to the directors formative years, followed in October by Chinese director Jia Zhangke’s Ash is Purest White, an intense and sprawling gangland tale of love, loss and redemption.

once we’ve built a good audience for this new programme, we can continue to make world cinema a key part of our film programme
