In 2020 BFI celebrated the cinema of Japan, with a comprehensive programme of films online via BFI Player and select screenings and events. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on UK cinemas, the season was postponed.
We are now pleased to announce Japan 2021, a nationwide expanded season welcoming applications for programmes and events celebrating Japanese cinema.
We are offering funding up to £5,000 for organisations to present screenings and engagement activity as part of the season. Smaller awards of up to £500 will be awarded to support costs for one-off screenings and booking fees.
